Analyzing Two Citations

You have re-read Party Girl pages 35-39 and pages 55-59.  Please find two citations that you find interesting. Type both in, using correct citation format, and then comment on each one.

Here is an example from Their Eyes Were Watching G d by Zora Neale Hurston:

“A pretty doll-baby lak you is made to sit on de front porch and rock and fan yourself” (Hurston 49).

I don’t agree with what he’s saying. As if pretty women were just supposed to sit around and fan themselves. And what’s the character saying about ugly women or fat women?  I don’t like the way he is stereotyping women. I don’t like this man.

  1. "'The others may be afraid of you, but not me"'(Ewing pg 38).
This citation lets us know that Dreamer doesn`t really care about what Pocho does because she isn`t scared of him and she wants to let him know that.

"'How can all of you act like this is a normal afternoon"' (Ewing pg 39).
This citation is letting us know that while everyone is drinking and having fun Dreamer can`t get over the fact that Ana is dead because she loved her and she doesn`t think the other characters should be having fun if they really loved her as much as they say especially Pocho.

  3. " how can all of you act like this is a normal afternoon?" i shouted at them . "Ana's not coming back."( Ewing, 39) Dreamer is mad because her bestfriend Ana died and everyone is acting like nothing happened. Dreamer thinks noobody cared that Ana died.

" he went white with fear, and i liked the feel of power the gun gave me. i was in control now "( Ewing , 55) Dreamer feel powerful and revengeful , she feels unstoppable with the gun , like nothing can come in her way , she had total control with the gun

  5. two citations that i find interesting are ,"i was ready but pocho was making me too nervous, like hot wire jumping through my skin" and ,"... feeling the devil squeeze my heart". i like these citations because i think that they both use really good figurative language. my favorite citation is the one that says" feeling the devil squeeze my heart.

  6. 1."I don't know what I expected to see. Machula with Ana in his boat, sailing across the clouds? I watched for a long time. Somehow I knew that Ana wasn't in the grave anymore, and I thought if I looked hard enough I might see her in the sky."(Ewing 35). This citation shows that Dreamer knows that Ana is in heaven.

2."My heart was pumping. I was ready, but Pocho was making me too nervous, like hot wire jumping through my skin, the way he was searching through the cassettes, clattering the plastic."(Ewing 56). This citation shows that Dreamer is to nervous to kill anybody.

  9. "Pocho,you're a fool," I said. "Dog's don't give anything but love,and you treat it like this?"

"You don't even know what love is," Pocho said.
    (Ewing38)

To me Dreamer is really hurt by what Pocho had just said to her because she had loved Ana
Probally more than anything else in the world and for Pocho to just question her like That hurts her, Dreamer is watching Pocho flirting with Serena and treating the dog like it was nothing, That must have provoked Dreamer to get the dog because Pocho was treating the dog exactly like he was treating Ana at the moment, like nothing.

"My heart was pumping. I was ready, but Pocho was making me too nervous, like hot wire jumping through my skin,......"
    (Ewing56)

This is a very complex state on doing what's right. Pocho has given Dreamer a g=Gun to kill the one responsible for Ana's death. This shows That Pocho cares for Ana and letting the one who probally loved her the most take the shot but, this is also a negative deed of Pocho by trying to take the life of another being. He does have the right intentions but chooses the wrong actions on which he believes is right

  10. The citations that i liked were "How can all of you act like this is a normal afternoon?"I shouted at them. "Anas not coming back." Pocho grabbed Serena's malt liquor and threw it at me. "We all loved Ana, you bitch,"he yelled. I like these citations because both of them have their diffrent opinions about Ana's death and i just like the ways dreamer and pocho fight.
