Copper Sun - Let's Begin

Today, we will read the first two chapters of Copper Sun, by Sharon Draper.  Afterward, you and your partner will pick at least two questions below and answer them, using the "add comment" feature.

Write the question number, and turn the question into a statement so the readers know which question you are answering.


  1. When people are betrothed, it means they have enter into a formal agreement to marry. But, in more traditional eras, that agreement is often made by the parents, not by the young people themselves.  A) Express your views about two people being betrothed to each otherm b) Analyze the relationship between Amari and Besa
  1. How does the culture in the village of Ziavi differ from the culture in your community regarding marriage?
  1. Why do you think girls were forbidden to weave fabrics on the loom? What privilges (or chores)  do you know of today, if any, that girls are forbidden to do? How do you feel about this? 
  1. What does your family do to welcome guests to your home? 
  1. Compare and contrast your community to the village of Ziavi.

  1. Besa is very skilled in drum playing. What do you think Besa meant when he said that drums are not just noise, they are a language?

    7. The culture in the village of Ziavi is different because they do a celebration to welcome people,and they have to tell the chief when a stranger comes and when a stranger comes to our community we dont celebrate or tell anyone.

  2. The way we welcome our guest is by hugging them and then later when my parents are talking to them they offer them drinks.# 4

  3. 2) Its different because the people in the village of Ziavi are married at a young age and from my culture is different because we can only marry somebody until we are adults.

    6)In my community men greet ladies by by sayin,"How are you doing today miss?" Then they shake hands.

  9. #2 In my community marriage is untik your at least 18 and the parents don't pick who you marry the child does.

    #4 What my family does to greet guests is they give them a hug and kiss on the cheek and greet them, ask how they are and and offer them a drink and talk to them.

  12. #4) When guest come to our home we always clean up nd my mom always goes runnin to greet them.
    #2) In the Ziavi people marry @ a younger age like @ 16 but here people marry @ like idk I think 21...idk ^__^

    A)I personally believe that love should not be forced but rather the engaged ones make the decisions themselves. When Love is real, It always finds away.

    B)It seems pretty self-explanatory,
    the typical Boyfriend Girlfriend act.
    It seems like they have a real strong connection and really want to be together.


    2. The lovers choose to get married, not chosen by their parents. The lovers are not forced to and can back out at anytime.

    3.Currently I don't know any at the moment.

    4.Serve the guests food and drinks and get to know them or chat.

    5.My community has many people from all around the world and anyone is welcome to come to this state.
    This differs from Amari's village because you need to pass inspection going in to state while in the Ziavi village there is a big celebration and a big festival is made.

    6.Mostly by saying "Hey Baby",
    "(Person's name here)" or anyway know in flirtation.

    7.A public brodcasting or oeople or officials warn of them.

    8.That he shares a deep connection with the music he play's. He expresses himself through this.
    For example if someone is sad the music beat is usually quiet or slow and if the musician is happy or joyful the music is cherry or upbeat.
